Patrons were treated to free scones, sausages, and a healthy dose of sunshine on Saturday, 21 October at the South Eastern Community Care (SEC Care) Community Expo.

A huge thank you to the 25 organisations from around Tasmania who came together for one special event to pay homage to Tasmanian seniors.

SEC Care CEO Helen Pollard said for the second year running, the Organisation had proudly put the Expo together without any funding assistance, and at no cost to stallholders or patrons.

“Most items we needed to host the free sausage sizzle and Devonshire Tea had either been generously donated or funded by local businesses and organisations from the Sorell community,” Ms Pollard said.

“We believe this Expo was a true testament to the community spirit that is alive and well in the Sorell municipality, and are excited to be a driving force behind that ethos into the future."

“Servicing rural and regional parts of Southern Tasmania, every day we see how important our seniors are in our Tasmanian communities. Hosting an event like our Community Expo is our way of showing our elders how much we value the contribution they make to their community.”

After the success of this year’s event, SEC Care is looking ahead to Seniors Week 2018, where they plan to put on another Community Expo.

“We are already looking forward to doing this all over again in 2018,” Ms Pollard said. “We encourage people who may be interested in getting involved to come forward now so we can make it bigger and better.”

Each year, in honour of Tasmanian seniors, the aged care industry joins the Tasmanian community to celebrate COTA’s Seniors Week.  This year, Seniors Week 2017 ran from 16 – 22 October 2017.

SEC Care is a Tasmanian not-for-profit organisation that provides quality community care to people of all ages. They have supported people to live independently in their homes and community for over 45 years.
